Located in the heart of Recife, Paço do Frevo is a cultural institution dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and passing forward the rich heritage of Pernambuco. It is a place where music, dance, and history come together to keep the spirit of frevo alive for future generations. Designing the lighting for this cultural landmark was, above all, an exercise in listening.
Our process began with the place itself. We sought to understand its local identity so that the lighting could reveal, embrace, and amplify what was already there. Working across Brazil has taught us that lighting design is also an act of recognizing and respecting the culture of each place. Paço do Frevo is one of the projects that best embodies this belief.
